Come and enjoy the underground Christmas market in Valkenburg, open every day from 16 November to 29 December 2024. We are closed on 25 December.

Visiting daily from 10am to 5.30pm and entrance closes at 4.45pm.
Christmas Market Velvet Cave
From 16th November up to and including 29th December, the Velvet Cave Christmas Market takes place. There will be no regular guided tours then. After the end of the Christmas market (from 2 January), regular guided tours will take place again.

On 31 December, the Christmas market Velvet Cave is closed.
Please note that the Castle Ruin will be open from 10am to 3pm.

Relive the stirring history of the many sieges, destructions and dominions of knights such as Walram de Rosse, Gosewijn, and the Dukes of Brabant, until the final destruction of the castle on 10 December 1672 at the hands of Stadtholder Willem III.The remains of the castle ruins have stood as a quiet reminder of the proud fortress here at this prominent place in the Geul Valley ever since.
Back to the Middle Ages. The rich history of the Middle Ages lives again with a visit to the Castle Ruins in Valkenburg aan de Geul, and its history dating back to the 11th century!
The Velvet Cave has many secrets. Discover a treasure trove of impressive wall murals, inscriptions, strange sculptures in the soft marlstone walls and a romantic chapel dating from the French period (18th century).
